This volleyball player could be the new leader of the national team. "He makes a very big impression"

The playmaker from Krakow came to Lublin in 2022. Marcin Komenda became the team captain and the "brains" of the team, responsible for the play. It must be admitted that almost everything that happened on the pitch on the side of Bogdanka LUK was in his hands. Komenda, although the stakes were really high and the competition did not intend to give up, persevered and confirmed his sports class.

Wilfredo Leon is an exceptional figure, one of the most important – if not the most important, looking at the PlusLiga as a whole. The class receiver made his debut in the Polish competition and immediately proved what he was capable of. Leon, however, had to receive the right balls, together with his teammates on the pitch. The aforementioned Komenda took care of that.

I got to know his many abilities during the final tournament of the Nations League in 2019 in Chicago, when he went there with a slightly changed Polish national team and he already showed himself from a good side. The way Marcin has developed as a setter this season, taking into account the previous games, is very impressive. I have already told him that I am a big fan of him in the national team and I wish that he goes with the national team to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. I think that his way of playing and self-confidence are at an increasingly higher level. I think that Marcin Komenda's play was the key to our success, because when it comes to Wilfredo Leon, everyone knows what an outstanding player he is and how important a figure he is," admitted the Bogdanka LUK libero in an interview for plusliga.pl.

It is worth recalling that coach Nikola Grbić did not call up the previous "number one" in point guard Marcin Janusz to the broad squad. The team also did not include the "number two", the unsung hero of the Paris Games - the experienced Grzegorz Łomacz.

It is possible that such a "new beginning" will be a great opportunity for Komenda. The captain of the Polish champions can blaze his own trail in the national team, having already gained some experience in the most important team in the country. Komenda led the team, among others, during the work of coach Vital Heynen, to the bronze medal in the Nations League in 2019.

The season that has ended was incredibly exciting. The PlusLiga was full of interesting matches, with stands full of fans.

Ultimately, the league podium looks like this: Gold for Bogdanka LUK Lublin , the first medal in the club's history, immediately from the most precious metal. The vice-champions of Poland, for the second time in a row, were the volleyball players of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie. And bronze medals for PGE Projekt Warszawa. Players from the capital also repeated the result from the 2023/24 season. All three teams, apart from the medals of the Polish Championship, secured their participation in the next edition of the Volleyball Champions League.

JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel, the dethroned national champion, finished fourth. This team gained a ticket to the CEV Cup. Fifth place, the last one awarded with European cups, went to ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle.
